Slowly, I'm in a hurry

There's plenty of truth in this paradox. Attributed to more than one historical figure, the original phrase says: “Dress me slowly, I'm in a hurry”. As contradictory as it may sound, the message, however, is as clear as water. In a world moving at a vertiginous speed, we better slow down to move quickly. How so? Think of it this way: slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Because every time we're in a hurry, we get clumsy and shit tends to happen. Haste makes waste; hurrying causes mistakes.

However, the world praises speed and multitasking as if they were some sort of virtue. Well, I don't believe that. I believe in personal pace and thoughtfulness. In doing things well and getting things done. Smoothly. Speed and multitasking are stress triggers and will surely set you up to fail in the mid and long run. Personal pace and thoughtfulness, on the other hand, are sustainable and are the key ingredients of the recipe for success.

As poet Rubén Darío wrote:

Ama tu ritmo y ritma tus acciones

"Love thy rhythm and rhythm thy actions". Be true to yourself. A work well done is worth some extra hours.

Quality is worthy. Speed might end up being expensive. If you were a business owner, you would better deliver with quality, setting a reliable time frame, than to deliver a product prone to error quickly. Speed and perfection are inhumanly possible but unsustainable.

As popular wisdom says, he who is in a hurry always arrives late.

Slow down. Be worthy of a work well done.

Love thy rhythm and rhythm thy actions
